MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The City of Merced is dedicating a time successful March to the trade of quilting - the dedication follows a decades-old contented by a section nonprofit to amended the lives of the homeless.

Since 1984, the metropolis says the Gateway Quilters’ Guild has been committed to preserving the creation of quilting portion giving backmost to the community.

Each year, the nonprofit supports section students with scholarships, expands outreach efforts specified arsenic the Dress A Girl Around the World task and donates 250 to 300 quilts to those successful need. According to the guild's website, the guild has donated much than 4,000 quilts.

During Monday's City Council meeting, the metropolis recognized their efforts and Mayor Pro Tempore Sarah Boyle officially proclaimed March 15 arsenic National Quilting Day successful Merced.
