FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A erstwhile detective with the Fresno Police Department was arrested Thursday, constabulary said. He is being accused of checking retired currency from the grounds locker and not returning it successful May 2024.

Fresno Police said that owed to the transgression implications and interest that the theft could beryllium portion of a larger-scale problem, they requested the FBI's assistance by conducting a full, autarkic transgression investigation.

An interior administrative probe resulted successful the termination of the erstwhile detective successful June 2025.

On Oct. 9, aft an extended transgression investigation, the FBI, successful coordination with the California Department of Justice (DOJ), took the erstwhile detective into custody. Police said helium was taken into custody for aggregate violations of California authorities law.

The DOJ has not yet released a sanction for the erstwhile detective.

Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said that she is "deeply troubled by the erstwhile detective's conduct."
